Paceline, May 13

Hi Team,

Ride/Race Reports

Red Kite - Evan raced in the 3/4 field and spent some time off the front in a solo break.

Berkeley Hills Road Race - Leo and I raced Berkeley Hills in the 3's. Les's 45+ group passed us on the first lap. Then a few knuckleheads from my group chased down their group. We were all together on the hairy descent. Then we were neutralized. Towards the end of the race my break caught the 45s! Moto refs have a tough job. Despite this confusion and the flat tire I got 5 miles from the line while in a breakway, I think it was a great race.

Upcoming Rides/Races

TNPR - This Tuesday, top of CCCX, 6pm. Five laps of fun. We had nine or ten riders out there last week. There were a few break attempts but nothing stuck. Steven Jones took the sprint from a long way out. You know how I know that Steve won it? Yes, I was there and I saw it, but I also heard from two different guys who rode the SMR, "Chris, Steve said he beat you on Tuesday night!" and "Steve said he wasn't going to let you win it."

Mariposa County Womens Stage Race. You asked for it, ladies. Here's your chance to get out there and compete against the best females in the region.

Modesto Crit & Road Race - Saturday and Sunday. Both are flat and fast. If I recall correctly, MBRT did well at these races last year. I just checked and there is no 3 field in the men's criterium, it's combined (1/2/3) and a good opportunity to mix it up with the big boys. Who is going?

Clovis Criterium - Sunday...in Clovis. Keith DeFiebre's report from yesterday's Clovis Criterium: It was hot. The series continues this coming Sunday.

Mark Your Calendars

Mt. Hamilton Road Race. Sunday, May 26th. This is the NCNCA masters and elite district championship race; this is for all the marbles. Many of the fields start around 8am. If you're not feeling competitive right now please also check out the race to the observatory around 10am. Mt Hamilton is just a great ride. Also, the race begins at the foot of Mt. Hamilton and concludes in Livermore so either plan to ride back to start/finish or get a ride back to start/finish.

Memorial Day Criterium Monday, May 27th in Morgan Hill. This crit is always fun and has a big showing. It is also the last race of the NCNCA spring points series.

Bite Hard Road Race, June 29th. Local cyclist Jeff Malnick is promoting this race. It looks great and worth the drive to Mendocino County. Jeff puts a lot of effort into making this an awesome event. The race blog will keep you up to date on the latest race developments. Contact Jeff to discuss the MBRT discount. Of course there will be free Bite Hard Cider at the finish.

In Other News

The Tour of California begins this week! The Time Trial is in South San Jose/Morgan Hill on Friday May 17. MBRT could meet up around noon in Gilroy and ride out watch part of the Time Trial. It could be fun. Then on Saturday Stage 7 starts in Livermore and passes back through Livermore, then concludes with a hilltop finish on Mt Diablo. This is another opportunity to meet, spectate, and ride part of the course.

MBRT's Downtown Salinas Criterium is just six weeks away. How do you plan on helping? We need assistance course marshaling and in setup and registration. A number of MBRTers have responded to me and D3 to offer help. More than anything we need someone to organize volunteers. Can you do it?
