Paceline July 8

Hi Team,

Ride/Race Reports

Red Kite- About ten of us raced Red Kite over the weekend. It was challenging and fun. Andrew placed 8th in the 3/4s and I took 9th in the 2/3s. My gopro was running and I might have some footage up soon.

Upcoming Rides/Races

TNPR - Will the break stick or will it come down to a bunch sprint?

Watsonville Criterium - Do this race! I hear Brad Griffen is motivated to race this one. Are you? Do you know the course? Here's a gopro video of a guy who raced in the 4s last year. Here's a video from my gopro that shows me go on a failed attack. Do your virtual recon and plan your race.

Colavita Gran Prix - This race looks very interesting. There's a long straight downhill run-in to the finish. And a 2/3 field. Too bad it's so far away...

Foothill College Crit - The Learning Curve. MBRT had a good showing at this one last year. This race has a lot of turns, a few hills, and the roads are not particularly wide. Things string out over start/finish and the following downhill. There's a fast section past the fountain and through some turns. On the next climb it tends to bunch up. Then a small descent and an uphill sweeper towards the finish. It's not easy to move up so stay towards the front and ride smart. (video and video)

Track Racing is in full swing, with Wednesday and Friday night events. The Masters State Championship is this weekend as well. With that in mind I might try to sneak in a win on Friday night while the Masters guys are resting up. Any interest?

The Aptos Ride is heating up. Depart from the wharf at 7:30 and REI at 8:10. Sunday.

Logan Loader won the national championship Time Trial a few days ago. NCNCA President Keith DeFiebre sums it up:

Leading the way for all the incredible TT performances from the NCNCA was Monterey County's Logan Loader(CashCall Mortgage). Loader dominated the Men' Open division posting the fastest time for all riders combined at Nationals and brings back Gold to the NCNCA region. Loader is a rider who truly cut his teeth in Cycle Sport by racing NCNCA events. On a personal note, I started to work with Logan and his race dreams when he was 8 years old. Logan showed me at that age incredible talent and desire for cycling. Logan then raced for many years in the NCNCA taking part in Cyclocross, Track, MTB, and Road events which made him one of the NCNCA's most complete riders. Logan's dedication and perseverance has paid off big time, and he is now a 2013 USA Cycling National Champion.

Congratulate Logan when you see him.

Have you been following the Tour de France? Is Sky beatable? Who is your dark horse, Quintana? Today is a rest day. How will the ITT change things?

Taking an easy week,
