It was fun to be a part of the MBRT paceline today. If you're a MBRT rider and you skipped it, you missed out. Here's a little ride report. (Cliff notes are at the bottom.)
Andrew and I rode off at a leisurely pace from the wharf at just after 8am this morning. We met Don, Kimberly, Chris White, and Matt at REI around 9am.
It was a bit misty.
The plan was to ride for a few hours in the foggy wetness. We did that. Kimberly stuck to the Coastal Trail and the four guys worked our way North through Marina and then past Pezzinis. (Matt is still mending a broken wing and should be back on the rides soon.)
We had a great paceline going along Molera and then Highway 1. Soon we made a right turn on Salinas Rd. and looped back towards Monterey. We were back near REI around 11:30.

Andrew and I went back to the Coffee House on the wharf for our post-ride hangout.
Quote of the ride, by Chris White: "I went hard on the hill because I wanted to be the one to attack. I didn't want anyone attacking me."
I get that. It's nice to be in control. But once we start with the attacks, when do they stop?
Cliff Notes:
1) Don got stung by a bee. Hilarity ensued.
2) At some point Chris and Don outsprinted Andrew and me.
3) Andrew and I counter-attacked Chris and Don.
4) I brought up the idea of working on team tactics, chasing breaks, mastering the lead out, maybe with drills along the coastal trail.
5) We may do some motorpacing along Molera road, as it's somewhat dangerous to race with pedestrians on the coastal trail.
6) Everyone agreed that Ben Albracht is bad to the bone.
7) We worked on pacelining and enjoyed some jokes. Most the jokes had to do with "getting caught with your pants down." But once we start with the jokes, when do they stop?
8) We had a fun ride with a number of little hilltop accelerations!
9) On our way back from REI, I took advantage of the fact that Andrew raced for all 70 miles of San Ardo Road Race and attacked seven or eight times.
10) On our way back from REI, Andrew mentioned that I didn't finish the San Ardo Road Race seven or eight times.
11) Andrew beat me up a hill and I made a number of excuses including, "I was trying to shift and I grabbed my brake by accident."
12) I spent all my money on cliff bars, coffee, and superglue at Target.
14) I used the superglue to fix the suspension in my helmet
15) After the ride I noticed that my hair was superglued to the inside of my helmet.
16) You didn't notice that I skipped cliff note #13.
17) You just checked to see if I actually skipped cliff note #13.
18) I did.
19) You feel tricked.
20) Now you're paying attention to the numbers.
21) You wont let yourself be tricked again.
22) I tricked Andrew into loaning me $2 at the Coffee House.

23) I already owe Andrew a Subway sandwich.
24) Andrew plans on eating crepes at the Coffee House on the wharf very soon. Maybe before a ride.
25) I'll probably buy.

26) We're trying to figure out nicknames and while I like Hustler the name Candy may stick. Maybe FridgeMagnet. Or Cain.
